It was 1958 when Enric Bernat, a Spanish entrepreneur and descendant of three generations of pastry chefs, had an idea destined to revolutionize the world of candy forever: a sweet that kids could enjoy without getting their hands dirty. This marked the birth of a lollipop that would become popular worldwide as “Chupa Chups®”. Not everybody knows that its original name was “Gol”: a tribute to the sphere shape of the candy and Bernat’s passion for soccer. It was later renamed “Chups” and, thanks to a famous radio jingle, it turned into the iconic “Chupa Chups®”. Today, with millions of pieces produced and over 100 flavors available, it offers 16 minutes of pure pleasure!
Over the years, not only has Chupa Chups® won the hearts of children but also adolescents, adults, and various celebrities worldwide. Madonna and the Spice Girls are just a few VIPs immortalized with a Chupa Chups® in their hands, making it a true (lolli)pop icon!
And how can you forget the touch of a surrealist genius? In 1969, Salvador Dalí doodled the famous daisy-shape logo on a newspaper, turning it into the timeless symbol representing the brand to this day.
The legend of Chupa Chups® is certainly the result of creativity, but even brilliant marketing intuitions. Positioned by the cash register, colorful, and alluring, it immediately caught the attention of children, who would promptly convince their mothers that they just couldn’t do without the fantastic sweet.
